Have you ever wondered does God know everything before it happens? Does God know what you are going to do before you do it? Have you wondered, does God know the future?

If you have asked yourself these questions, guess what? You are asking the same questions theologians have asked for thousands of years. When people ask me about specific biblical questions, I always refer to what the Bible says. I don’t try to give my opinion. If I don’t know an answer, I try to say, “I don’t know.” But I’ll try to find what the Bible says on the topic.

Does God know the future?

In the letter Peter is writing, he mentions “the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and for the sprinkling with his blood.” Does this mean God knows the future?

Those few statements pack a punch. I am only to go over Peter’s first statement, “the foreknowledge of God the Father.”

As I mentioned above, I don’t give my opinion I go to the Holy Scriptures.

Do you remember when Jesus told Peter, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times?” We all know what happened. Peter denied the LORD three times before the rooster crowed. But maybe it was a lucky guess on Jesus’ part. Do you remember when the twelve apostles had the Last Supper with Jesus? Jesus said, “But behold, the hand of him who betrays me is with me on this table.” Catch this next part: “For the Son of Man goes as it has been determined, but woe to the man by whom he is betrayed.” – If you know your Bible, you know the Apostle, Judas Iscariot, betrayed Jesus. Basically, he lied to the Jewish council so he could get thirty pieces of silver. If you aren’t satisfied yet, let’s look at one more for fun. Do you remember when Jesus was being questioned by Pilate? John 18 – Jesus says to Pilate, “For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world – to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.”

God already knew what was going to happen

All three of these examples are showing you that God already knew what was going to happen before it happened. Peter is not writing something that Jewish Believers don’t know. It is common knowledge for these readers and those who are listening to Peter’s letter. The intended readers back in the 60s were well-versed in the multiple writers of the Jewish Bible. But if you are new to the Bible and to the Christian faith, as you read the Bible, the Holy Spirit will begin to reveal the biblical truths of God’s holy word, just like the Holy Spirit revealed God’s truth back then.

Even though God has the Foreknowledge, we also know Christ Jesus has the Foreknowledge of knowing what is going to happen before it happens. God the Father and God the Son still care what happens to you. Take the case of Jesus’ friend, Lazarus.

Jesus knew that Lazarus was going to die. Because Jesus is God.

When you read the first-hand account of John’s Gospel, he writes about Jesus being given the news that his friend Lazarus died. What does our LORD Jesus do? John 11:35 – “Jesus wept.” What is the definition of “wept?” Uncontrollable comfort. Jesus was devastated. You see, Jesus cares for you. I hope on your last breath in this life; you will be with me in the next life. The only way to the way, the truth, and the life is only through the blood of Jesus. Believing that Jesus died for you and the sins you have committed. When you believe on the name of Jesus, you are washed, cleansed, and transformed from death to eternal life with Jesus, who is our Savior and Redeemer.
